Endometriosis is one of the most common gynecological disorders, affecting 5.5 million women in North America. Endometriosis occurs when the endometrial tissue that grows inside the uterus, grows outside the uterus—on the ovaries, fallopian tubes and other areas in the pelvis.

The breakdown and bleeding of this tissue each month can cause scar tissue called lesions. Its common symptom is pelvic pain and it often occurs in women who suffer from infertility. There are several treatment options, such as surgery, medications and hormone therapy. Although there is no cure, prominent doctors and researchers are hard at work trying to find one, and several A-list celebrities are working hard on raising awareness and funds.
